Meditation
Meditation is the word we use to describe the state of mind we find ourselves in when our thinking mind is channeled into the present moment for a sustained period of time. Yoga is the process we all go through on our way to a state of meditation.
The Breath & Meditation class is a 45 minute guided meditation. You will begin by finding a comfortable seat. Every class begins with a moment of physical movement to relieve the natural stress and tension we are holding in the neck, shoulders arms and hands. When we are ready to sit still, all of our awareness is directed to the breath. Different breathing techniques are taught and utilized for the purpose of clearing and calming the mind. When we learn to direct our awareness into the breath, we learn to direct our thinking mind into the present moment. The awareness of the breath leads us to the awarenss of a deeper level within the body, the heart. Once the thinking mind is channeled into the heart, the present moment continues to expand throughout the physical body. This practice utlizes our natural ability to concentrate and focus ourselves for the purpose of feeling good. Concentration is the exerted effort which preceeds the release of effort we experience in meditation.
With practice, we learn to get into states of meditation with less effort and find that throughout our waking day, we are constatnly slipping in and out of moments of meditation. The practice of meditation is learning to connect the small moments throughout the day so that the calm, clear state of mind you get from meditation no longer requires great effort to reach.
