Your body runs on tiny electrical signals — that's how your nerves, brain, and heart all work. Most of us spend our days cut off from the ground: rubber-soled shoes, wood and concrete floors, cars, elevators. Some people believe that disconnection leaves the nervous system a little more wound up than it needs to be.

"Grounding," also called earthing, means putting your skin in direct contact with the earth — bare feet on grass or sand, or touching a mat that's wired to the ground. The idea is that the earth carries a steady, gentle charge, and touching it directly can help bring your body back to a calmer baseline.

There's real, early research on grounding worth knowing about. One study found that just two hours of grounding measurably changed the electrical charge on red blood cells, in a way that reduced clumping and thinned the blood slightly. A more recent study on mitochondria — the tiny structures in your cells that produce energy — found that a grounded state led to more energy production and less cellular stress byproduct compared to a non-grounded state. This research is real and promising, but it's still small and far from settled. We think of it as a promising piece of the puzzle, not proven medicine.

As far as we know, we're the only yoga studio in New York City — maybe the country — built this way from the ground up. We ran copper strips across our studio floor in a deliberate grid: three rows, six mats each, connected to a grounded outlet. Our grounding mats sit directly on top of those copper lines, making real physical contact — we tested it ourselves with a multimeter to make sure the connection is real, not just for show.

Every class, every day, happens right on this grid. It's part of how we think about yoga here — pairing the practice with something real happening underneath your body while you move.

Come feel it for yourself. Space on the grid is intentionally kept small — 18 mats total — so reserve your spot early.
