An hour to learn how fall shows up in your body and mind, and how to balance it through breath, movement and food, so you leave able to notice the signs and adjust on your own.
Your body notices fall before the calendar does. The air turns dry and cold, the wind picks up, and the days get shorter just as life seems to speed up. You might feel it in your skin, your sleep, your digestion, or a mind that won’t settle. Or you might simply feel a little off and not know why.
This workshop is for everyone. It’s open to beginners, and no Ayurveda background is needed. All of us go through the change of season, and all of us can learn to meet it with balance.
The qualities of fall
Ayurveda, India’s traditional approach to balance in the body and mind, looks at the world through qualities. Fall is dry, light, cold, rough, subtle, mobile and clear, and those same qualities show up in us. Food shifts too: as we trade the lighter meals of summer for heavier fall food, many people notice bloating or a slower digestion.
Ayurveda’s answer is to bring in the opposite qualities: warming, grounding, stabilizing, moist, heavy and smooth. Kendra will show you how to notice what the season is doing in your own body and mind, and how to bring those opposites into your food, your movement and your day.
Where mindfulness comes in
Kendra sees mindfulness as the place where yoga and Ayurveda meet: knowing how your body feels, moves and breathes, noticing when something is out of balance, and knowing how to answer it.
How the hour flows
Learn · 20 minutes
A talk on the qualities of fall, how they show up in the body and mind, and simple ways to balance them with warmer food and a steadier daily rhythm.
Move · 20 minutes
A warming, grounding sequence with longer holds, practiced on our copper grounding grid.
Breathe · 5 minutes
A slow, steadying breath practice to quiet a busy mind.
Settle
A supported savasana to end the hour.
Kendra also sets out a spread of seasonal oils and teas from Komal Herbals, and you’re welcome to take home whatever you like. Look for abhyanga oil, a warm oil for slow, gentle self-massage that many people turn to when the air turns dry, and balancing teas for the cooler days.
No need to bring anything.
