More about the year
How a workshop runs
We use yoga, but this is more than getting stronger. You practice one thing: feeling what you feel and choosing where your attention goes. Then you notice what changes. You learn where your boundaries are, who you are in context, and how to stay yourself under pressure.
Each workshop happens on our copper grounding grid. We move for 60 minutes, a yoga class where Ben teaches through your body. Then we sit, and for the last half hour we talk it through together with a whiteboard and start your workbook page. You finish it at home, with one question to carry through the month.
What to expect. This is real work, and it can bring things up. It asks you to be present. We don't promise results. You find your own.
Your teacher. Ben Alpern is a co-owner of The Grounded Movement at Inner Space and a Reiki and QHHT practitioner. His classes are built to calm the nervous system and ease tension in the body, and this is the practice he returns to himself.
The practice in one minute
When you only have a minute
The whole practice in one minute
Between workshops, the practice comes with you. Use this short version on the subway platform, before a hard conversation, or whenever you notice you have left your space. It moves through all four stages in about a minute, and it grows as you learn each step.
- Foundation. Feel your weight and let the breath drop.
- Edge. Notice what the world does to your body, and let it exist.
- Exchange. Decide what comes in and what you send out.
- Tune. Notice how your body feels, and adjust one thing until it feels right.
The practice repeats. Step 12 feeds back into step 1, because a settled body lands in its inner space more easily each time you return.
Graduation
Attend all twelve and you graduate. Take them in one year, or over several: come to one, four, seven and ten this year, and fill in the gaps next year. We keep your count, and a make-up workshop counts too.
Graduates are invited to a get-together at the studio in December, after the final workshop: a meal, drinks, and a final teaching on bringing it all together, hosted by Ben and Deborah. It's free, and for graduates only.
If you miss one
There are no refunds. If you can't make a workshop, reach out and we'll make it right with a free spot at an upcoming workshop, to use within two months.
Come for one, or all twelve
Up to 18 mats on the grid, so reserve ahead. Move within your comfort and tell Ben about injuries before class. This is a movement and attention practice, not medical care.
